World Cup Russia 2018
The world cup 2018 is the twenty-first cup award, and it is the first time an Eastern Europe country hosts this sports event, gathering 32 teams. In a month, these teams will be playing many daily matches at four Russian cities.
For the creation of the World Cup´s mascot, Russia opened a platform where the Russian citizens could provide their preferences about the kind of character; choose features and even choosing its name. The creation activities began in April 2015 and ended on October 21, 2016.
A wolf was chosen as the official mascot of the FIFA Russia World Cup 2018, nice, funny, seductive and self-confident; its name, Zabivaka (or “little goalie”), got 53% of votes from the Russian public, followed by the tiger with 27% of votes and the cat with 20% of votes.
The games´ tickets are actually on the third sale phase and can be acquired from FIFA webpage, with a credit card or transfer for people outside of Russia.
The distribution of the 32 teams, eight groups with four different daily games in four different cities of Russia; this provides the fans to enjoy a month of pure adrenaline to know the world champion.
The countries distribution that has won at least one world cup is as follows:
- Brazil: 5(1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002).
- Germany: 4(1954, 1974, 1990, 2014).
- Italy: 4(1934, 1938, 1982, 2006).
- Germany: 3(1954, 1974, 1990).
- Argentina: 2(1978, 1986).
- Uruguay: 2(1930, 1950).
- Spain: 1(2010).
- France: 1(1998).
- England: 1(1966)
The country with most cups has been Brazil, with five; Brazil has known how to make use of the sport´s fame to improve tourism and became the host for the world cup 2014.
Every fan along the long and wide world are expecting the beginning of the sport´s season, opening on June 14 at the city of Moscow on the Luzhniki Stadium, with the match of Russia against Arabia Saudi. It is expected to be a cultural show of the hosting country at the opening of the season, this will show folklore aspects of the 4 cities, sites of the 64 games.
